Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of individuals in a variety of information and communications technology (ICT) roles who have established specialised skills in a technical ICT function.

Individuals in these roles carry out moderately complex tasks in a specialist field, working independently, as part of a team or leading a deliverable with others. They may apply their skills across a wide range of industries, business functions and departments, or as a business owner (sole trader/contractor).

The skills required for these roles may include, but are not restricted to:

  • advanced networking: configuring and managing virtual computing environments, and security within ICT networks
  • advanced programming: applying intermediate and advanced programming skills, managing data and building advanced user interfaces to manage organisational requirements
  • back end web development: developing and maintaining website information architecture and data
  • business analysis: designing and implementing technical requirements, quality assurance processes and contingency plans for businesses
  • cloud architecture: developing, improving and designing cloud infrastructure, including disaster recovery plans
  • cloud engineering: building, implementing and managing cloud infrastructure and virtual networks
  • cyber security: protecting sensitive data and information through security architecture and developing disaster recovery and contingency plans
  • database and data management: creating, designing and monitoring systems that store data and optimise organisational knowledge management
  • front end web development: designing dynamic and complex websites, user experience solutions and documents using extensible mark-up languages
  • game art and design: creating complex 2D and 3D modelling and animation software through scripts and storyboards
  • game programming: creating complex 2D and 3D interactive games and media, building graphical user interfaces and applying artificial intelligence in game development
  • systems administration: reviewing maintenance procedures and support to help troubleshoot system applications
  • systems analysis: modelling and testing data objects, data processes and preferred ICT system solutions
  • telecommunications network engineering: managing logistics, organisational specifications, regulations and legislative requirements across network projects.

Entry
Requirements

NVR Education Australia has the following entry requirements:

International students must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have successfully completed High School or hold other relevant qualification
  • Have an IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent (test results must be no more than 2 years old), or an Australian qualification equivalent to a minimum of Certificate IV level (or a substantial component towards a Certificate IV level), or have successfully passed NVR’s English Placement Test.

Course Duration

This qualification will be delivered over 78 weeks, including 52 weeks of training and assessment spread over 09 terms of 6 weeks and 24 weeks of holidays. Holidays are 2 weeks after each term, with the exception of the 4 week mid and end of year breaks. See dates here: https://www.nvr.edu.au/fees-and-dates/

Class sessions are planned to ensure that students have a mixture of practical and theoretical components and those classes cater for a wide variety of learning styles. Additionally, workplace practices and environments are simulated and used to conduct skills-based assessments in accordance with unit requirements.

Delivery mode
and location

This course is delivered in a Blended Learning approach. Students are required to study for at least 20 hours per week by attending scheduled classes for 14 hours and complete approximately 6 hours of Self-Paced Learning activities per week. Timetable information will be finalised closer to the course start date at Orientation. Students may commence this course at the start of any intake.

The ICT50220 Diploma of Information Technology requires the successful completion of six (6) core units and fourteen (14) elective units. Electives for this qualification should chosen to ensure that students achieve a broad range of skills and knowledge in Information Technology.

Course progress

Note that for international students satisfactory course progress is required in order to meet visa requirements. Enrolment and
Orientation

Upon acceptance of a student’s application for enrolment, a letter of offer and written agreement, will be forwarded to students. Students must read through all provided information as it will provide all necessary information about the course of study. A Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) letter will be issued once the signed acceptance of the offer and written agreement are received.

Orientation will be provided the week before your course starts. Orientation will include information about the campus, living in Australia, accessing our support services and methods for achieving success throughout the course, including course progress requirements.

Assessment Arrangements

Assessment methods used for this qualification will provide a range of ways for individuals to demonstrate that they have met the required outcomes including:

  • Projects
  • Presentations
  • Report writing
  • Observations
  • Questioning (oral or written)
  • Role plays
  • Case Studies

At the beginning of each unit, trainers will outline the assessment tasks that must be completed.

Course Costs:

The costs for this course are as follows:

  • Enrolment fee: $200 (onshore) non-refundable to be paid on application
  • Course fees: Total cost is AUD $20,500

A detailed payment plan and payment arrangements are provided in the letter of offer and written agreement. Course fees do not include computer software or textbooks which are to be purchased at the student’s own cost. Non-payment of course fees may result in cancellation of enrolment.

International students are also required to take out Overseas Health Insurance Cover before arriving in Australia. NVR Education provides details of OSHC providers in the International Student Handbook.

Student must also supply their own laptop with appropriate software and access to a fast and stable internet connection.

Enrolment at NVR includes an email account with access to Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Microsoft Teams and additional classroom tools).

To study online in a Virtual Learning Environment, students also require a web camera and microphone to participate in their scheduled classes.

Course Credit

Students may apply for recognition of existing qualifications or skills, knowledge and experience (credit transfer or recognition of prior learning) as per the information included in our International Student Handbook, which is available at www.nvr.edu.au/policies-and-procedures
For international students, the granting of course credit may affect course fees as well as the duration of the course. The result of an application for credit and any changes to fees or course duration will be advised to students in writing.

If course credit is granted following issuance of the Confirmation of Enrolment, students will receive a new Confirmation of Enrolment showing a reduced duration. For any questions about course credit, contact us at the details shown below.
