Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of individuals working as designers or design paraprofessionals who support professional engineers. They perform tasks involving a high level of autonomy and requiring the application of significant judgement in planning and determining the selection of equipment/roles/techniques for themselves and others. They are required to develop site specific work designs to ensure the implementation of the client’s site requirements. They demonstrate the application of a broad range of technical, managerial, coordination and planning skills.

Requirements

NVR Education Australia has the following entry requirements International students must:

International students must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age at course commencement
  • Have successfully completed an overseas senior secondary qualification
  • Have a minimum IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent (test results must be no more than 2 years old), hold an Australian qualification equivalent to a minimum of Certificate IV level (or Successful completion of an Australian Certificate IV qualification or higher), or have successfully passed NVR’s English Placement Test
  • All prospective students must complete a pre-enrolment Course Entry Interview and Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital Literacy (LLND) assessment prior to offer acceptance. This evaluation confirms course suitability and helps us identify any individual learning or technical support you may need to succeed

Course Duration

This qualification will be delivered over 78 weeks, including 54 weeks of training and assessment spread over 09 terms of 6 weeks and 24 weeks of holidays. Holidays are 2 weeks after each term, with the exception of the 4 week mid and end of year breaks. See dates here: https://www.nvr.edu.au/fees-and-dates/

Class sessions are planned to ensure that students have a mixture of practical and theoretical components and those classes cater for a wide variety of learning styles. Additionally, workplace practices and environments are simulated and used to conduct skills-based assessments in accordance with unit requirements.

Delivery mode

This course is delivered in a Blended Learning approach. Students are required to study for at least 20 hours per week by attending scheduled classes and completing structured Self-Paced Learning activities each week. Students must also undertake additional research, reading, and practice activities to successfully complete their unit/s of competency.

Timetable information will be finalised closer to the course start date at Orientation. Students may commence this course at the start of any intake.

Course progress

Note that for international students, satisfactory course progress is required in order to meet visa requirements. Enrolment and
Orientation

Upon acceptance of a student’s application for enrolment, a letter of offer and written agreement, will be forwarded to students. Students must read through all provided information as it will provide all necessary information about the course of study. A Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) letter will be issued once the signed acceptance of the offer and written agreement are received.

Orientation will be provided the week before your course starts. Orientation will include information about the campus, living in Australia, accessing our support services and methods for achieving success throughout the course, including course progress requirements.

All students will be provided with a range of learning support options and resources to help them achieve competency. This includes:

Assessment Arrangements

Assessment methods used for this qualification will provide a range of ways for individuals to demonstrate that they have met the required outcomes including:

  • Observations
  • Questioning (oral or written)
  • Case Studies
  • Role Plays
  • Portfolio

At the beginning of each unit, trainers will outline the assessment tasks that must be completed.

Course Costs:

The costs for this course are as follows:

  • Enrolment fee: $200 (onshore) non-refundable to be paid on application
  • Course fees: Total cost is AUD $21,600 plus $1,000 material fees

A detailed payment plan and payment arrangements are provided in the letter of offer and written agreement. Course fees do not include computer software or textbooks, which are to be purchased at the student’s own cost. Non-payment of course fees may result in cancellation of enrolment.

The College provides laptop with required system specifications on campus and offers extended resource access hours for students to complete their assessments. Prospective students enrolling in Civil Construction Design qualifications who wish to bring their own device (BYOD) must ensure their laptop meets our minimum technical specifications for all scheduled classes and assessments. Full details regarding hardware and software requirements will be provided during your pre-enrolment Course Entry Interview.

Enrolment at NVR includes an email account with access to Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Microsoft Teams and additional classroom tools).

International students are also required to take out Overseas Health Insurance Cover before arriving in Australia. NVR Education provides details of OSHC providers in the International Student Handbook.

Course Credit

Students may apply for recognition of existing qualifications or skills, knowledge and experience (credit transfer or recognition of prior learning) as per the information included in our International Student Handbook, which is available at www.nvr.edu.au/policies-and-procedures.
For international students, the granting of course credit may affect course fees as well as the duration of the course.
The result of an application for credit and any changes to fees or course duration will be advised to students in writing.

If course credit is granted following issuance of the Confirmation of Enrolment, students will receive a new Confirmation of Enrolment showing a reduced duration.
